about

I'm a software engineer who's been writing code since the age of 7. I care about open-source, self-hosted, and privacy-respecting software.

Professionally, I lead an engineering team at HubSpot. Before that, I was a tech lead at AWS, where the work I enjoyed most was:

  • Designing a system to merge multiple enterprise BI dashboards, and leading 9 engineers across teams to ship it. Under the hood, it does distributed construction and reconciliation of dependency graphs across the data pipeline while ensuring correctness.
  • Building a distributed rendering engine for pixel-perfect reports at scale, used by many Fortune 500 companies. I was one of four founding engineers and the project grew into its own organization. It was featured at the re:Invent keynote by the then-CEO.
  • Working deeply with headless browsers, their performance, orchestration, and surrounding technologies. This led to contributing code back to Google's Puppeteer project and advising several teams across AWS in this domain.

If you'd like to get in contact, feel free to email me at hi@d-buckner.org. I typically respond within a few days.
